CHEM 3352 / PGEL 4001 students will need their own laptops. We will set up all the required software the first day of class
OpenRefine
- Check that you have Firefox or Chrome browsers installed and set as your default browser. OpenRefine runs in your default browser. It will not run correctly in Internet Explorer.
- Download software from http://openrefine.org
- Unzip the downloaded file into a directory by right-clicking and selecting “Extract…”. Name that directory something like OpenRefine.
SQL
Download and install Mozilla Firefox. Add the SQLite Manager.
R
Download and install the R base system. After installing the base system, download and install R studio to work with the base system.
Git
Windows
- Download the Git for Windows installer.
- Run the installer and follow the steps bellow:
- Click on “Next”.
- Click on “Next”.
- Click on “Next”.
- Click on “Next”.
- Click on “Next”.
- Select “Use Git from the Windows Command Prompt” and click on “Next”. If you forgot to do this programs that you need for the workshop will not work properly. If this happens rerun the installer and select the appropriate option.
- Click on “Next”. Keep “Checkout Windows-style, commit Unix-style line endings” selected.
- Select “Use Windows’ default console window” and click on “Next”.
- Click on “Next”.
- Click on “Finish”.
